 Why did I buy?

I started smart home life with Philips HUE lights.

For the first time, it was briliant. Because I can control lights, lying down on my bed.

 

However I realized that I was too lazy to open Philips app very soon.

Then I decided to do it via voice command.

That is my starting point with Google home speaker.

 

When I got this in 2017, there was not many options for AI speaker.

Of course Alexa could be a alternative, but in my country it didn't support Korean language. 

(still now in 2021, it doesn't)

 

Even though there was other AI speakers, it didn't support smartthings

that is my main smarthome platform.

 How to use

Number 1 purpose is voice command.

Today I have got many smart devices in smartthings, but back then in 2017 I had only philips HUE lights.

 

The way to link is very simple.

Go to  google home app and login philips.

 

Since I finished connection, I have been able to control lights with my voice.

(Honestly, I'm using automation system with motion and pressure sensors thesesdays)

 

Connection work is easy, but actual usage is not.Because there is no instruction that shows how to use it.

 

For example, when I want to change color temperature it can't understand my words.

Or I have to do it on my phone.

(I'm not sure whether it works in other countries, but not in my country.)

 

That's why when I get new smart device, I have to test voice commands again and again

to checkout it works.

 PROS and CONS

  PROS

• Voice recognition is very good. (much better than Galaxy home mini)
• Good compatibility with other smart devices thanks to google product.

CONS

• Not optimized for Korean (not sure for other languages)
• Quite big sized

 Should buy?

Probably it is not available now, but Google nest mini is alternative.

I'm going to get some mini speakers to put it in each room.

 

Definitely that is not for listening to music, but voice commands for smart home.

If you have smart devices that link to google, Yes you should buy.

Otherwise, get a better speaker.
