 Why did I buy?

As always, main reason for buying IoT device is my lazyness.

I have got IoT remote like Logitech Harmony, but it doesn't work if device is not remote-work.

One of good examples is switching on bulb. (not smart bulb)

If I want to turn it off, I have to go and touch the power switch.

Lazyness makes me find better way, and I found IoT power plug, working in Wifi.

There are many power plugs, working in Wifi, zigbee, or z wave.

I chose Wifi one, because I have to have hub for zigbee or z wave. 

On the other hand, Wifi need only Wifi router that I have already got.

 

Another reason is IoT platform, smartthings.

As I mentioned several times, my smart home platform is smartthings.

 

That's why I always look for products that work with smartthings.

Wifi and smartthings are the best reason to buy for me.

 

 

 How to use

I connected non-smart bulb to this plug, and I made automation rules.

 

For example,

• Switching on light, when I arrive home (off when leave)
• Switching on light, when it is dark
• Switching on light, when I wake up

If you want to reduce usage of electricity, you can make your automation rule, based on your pattern.

In my case, I swtich off most of power plugs, when I leave home.

And my hair dryer will be off 5 min later after use.

 

All ways to use depend on your creativity.

ah, voice command with google speaker is possible of course.

 PROS and CONS

 PROS

• zigbee, z wave hub is not necessary, due to Wifi-work
• Swiching on/off remotely
• Compatible with smartthings

 

CONS

• Monitoring usage not availble
• It should be installed under WIfi coverage
• It is not connected to smartthings directly (have to use manufacture app, Dawon)

 

 Should buy?

If you are beginner or the one who just want to experience smart home, it will be good.

However if you want to be more professional, you need to get zigbee or z wave products.

 

Or power strip could be good solution. I will post about it soon.
